Mills has played professional banjo for the likes of Dolly Parton, Doyle
Lawson, Ricky Skaggs, Vince Gill, and the list goes on. He is
possibly one of the most influential banjo player of our time. He
plays with power, clarity and amazing precision.
This is a rare opportunity to experience all day with a six-time Grammy Award Winner and IBMA Banjo Player of the year. This will be a one day only “hands on”
experience studying with a true master of the craft of Bluegrass Banjo.
Jim will also be talking about the heart and soul of the
Pre War Gibson Banjo sound by showing you an original, Pre War Gibson
Flathead 5-String banjo during this workshop!

Richie Dotson started teaching banjo at the age of 19 and
has developed one of the best teaching methods of any instructor in the
field. Some of Richie's teaching partners have included such
well-known artists as Bill Evans, Bill Keith, Ron Block, and now -
Jim Mills.
Richie possesses an encyclopedic
knowledge of the banjo fingerboard and has over 25 years of professional
teaching experience. His earthy, hands-on, and clear approach to
teaching banjo will leave you with a firmer understanding of how your
instrument's fingerboard as well as the mechanics of the Bluegrass Style
of playing work. Richie logically ties together common threads not
used by other teachers to make the banjo much easier to understand than
traditional methods.
His natural ability to render
